Software Used: Adobe Photoshop
This was one of the more challenging and exciting projects I was entrusted with especially after not having 'painted' in a very long time.
Erez approached me for some album artwork. The initial piece was supposed to be an extensive photo-manipulation project which after some thinking and listening to the piece we agreed that a paint style might suit the song better even though we knew this entailed a lot more work.
Brief:
An image of a forest with split seasons - a summer/fall forest on the left and a winter forest on the right.
In the center there's a girl in a red dress walking away from us (the viewer).
He wanted the girl to stick out. So we were thinking perhaps a different art style or maybe an incomplete canvas around her may help achieve this.
The design would be utilized for both various thumbnails additional to the single cover. Therefore, I created my file larger than what either final was going to require, making sure I wouldn't run into last minute cropping issues.
The first attempt being the following:
Winter Song - Draft 1
Winter Song - Draft 1
Winter Song - Draft 1, with Title
Winter Song - Draft 1, with Title
The only issue we ran into here was that our title wasn't going to be very legible if we continued down this route. Which as you might assume is not a great basis to be going on.

It became clear that we'd need to use a different kind of forest setting. Perhaps one with a higher perspective where we can use the top of the trees to help blend in our title.

Thus, our final attempt was born:
We started from scratch utilizing the new plan of having leaves up above helping us center the title, as following:
Single Cover Crop - 1:1
Single Cover Crop - 1:1
Thumbnail Crop

The project wrapped up very quickly and was soon ready for print and digital release.
